Sauk County Chapter: Fall Assembly – Adoption & Foster Care
September 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm CDT
Adoption & Foster Care will be the topics addressed on Tuesday, September 21st at the upcoming Fall Gathering of the Sauk County Chapter of Wisconsin Right to Life. The event will take place from 7:00-8:30pm at the Baraboo First Church of the Nazarene at 1800 Crawford St. on the north side of Baraboo.
Guest speakers for the evening are Rhea Newman, CSW, of Catholic Charities of Wisconsin, talking about “The Option of Adoption,” and Bill & Tammy Johnson of Baraboo speaking about “The Ups and Downs of Being a Foster Parent.”
Rhea Newman, CSW, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Viterbo University and is a Certified Social Worker in the state of Wisconsin. She started her career as a Volunteer Coordinator for the CASA for Kids Program, an advocacy program for children who are in the child welfare system due to abuse and neglect. She joined Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse almost 15 years ago as a Pregnancy Support and Adoption Social Worker. Rhea works with individuals facing unplanned pregnancies and helps families grow through domestic and international adoption.
Bill & Tammy Johnson live in rural Baraboo with their six younger children which they fostered to adoption. They also have three adult birth children. Bill & Tammy will share their amazing story from their decision to begin treatment foster care, to taking in six foster children (ages 1-5) in 2-1/2 years, to eventual adoption of all of them. Bill summarizes their experience as foster care parents as, “It has not been easy, but it has been good.”
Following the presentations by the speakers, there will be a short Q&A time so attendees can get more information on these topics. The evening will end with a short awards presentation. This is a free community event with coffee and dessert being served.
