Obama Says He Won’t “Back Down” on His Support of Abortion

It has been pretty comical to watch Obama spin, mold, expand and shift his positions on numbers of issues in the past four weeks, trying to make the public believe that the new position is what he has always stood for. What hilarity to then see him try to glide back to original positions as various interest groups he has offended beat him over the head.

And, so go his nuanced comments reported in this blog last week about Obama now wanting to prohibit late-term abortions.

Just days after these erroneous mutterings, Obama appeared on July 10 with his new best friend, Hillary Clinton, at a gathering of “Women for Obama.” With his ears ringing, no doubt, from claims that he is a turncoat on abortion “rights,” Obama told the group (as reported by the Baptist Press): “I stand by my votes against confirming Justices Roberts and Alito. I’ve made it equally clear that I will never back down from making sure that women have their reproductive rights here in this country. That’s what’s at stake in this election…..I was proud to get Planned Parenthood’s endorsement.”

It is incredible that Obama thinks the public will buy yesterday’s position nuanced to today’s (which is what he says has always believed) back to some new incarnation of the original stance and not see through it. Then again, his flimsy strategy may be working. Recent polling tells us half the population doesn’t even know how radically pro-abortion Obama is. Worse, 10% thinks he is pro-life.

Our job to educate the public is more challenging than ever with the lives of another 50 million children who could die from abortion over the next 30 years at stake.
