Three Texas Planned Parenthood Clinics Announce They Are Closing After Governor Perry Signs Legislation

Many thanks to Texas Governor Rick Perry for signing into law legislation that bans abortion after 20 weeks and places commonsense health and safety regulations on abortion clinics. The new law also requires a doctor who performs abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital and requires a doctor to personally administer abortion-inducing drugs to the patients rather than prescribing the drugs from a remote location.

The ink hadn’t even dried from the bill-signing when Planned Parenthood informed their employees at three locations in Texas that they would be closing. Those clinics are located in Bryan, Huntsville and Lufkin, Texas.

As expected, Planned Parenthood excoriated Governor Perry, the Texas Legislature and the new law by declaring that “Texas politicians are stripping health care from women across the state” and accused them of “harming lives.”

This sort of inflamatory rhetoric and desperate whining cannot hide the fact that Planned Parenthood is unable to meet the same health and safety standards that are required of Texas ambulatory surgical centers under the new law. And that is a major reason the three clinics are closing.
