House Judiciary Committee: Holding Planned Parenthood Accountable

"Wisconsin Right to Life applauds the U.S. House of Representatives’ Judiciary Committee for holding a hearing yesterday to keep Planned Parenthood accountable for their horrific abortion practices," stated Heather Weininger, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life. "We want to especially thank one of Wisconsin’s own pro-life champions, Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, for standing for life during this important hearing to investigate the nation’s largest abortion provider."

Among those testifying at the hearing was National Right to Life’s General Counsel James Bopp, Jr. who explained how Planned Parenthood’s current practice of procuring and selling human fetal tissue from abortion violates federal law. In addition, abortion survivor and longtime friend of Wisconsin Right to Life, Melissa Ohden, testified to the House Judiciary Committee. As a survivor of a saline abortion, she spoke for all of the unborn children victimized by abortion at Planned Parenthood, stating that, "as a fellow American, as a fellow human being, I deserved the same right to life, the same equal protection under the law as each and every one of you," then continued, "Something is wrong when women’s empowerment is based on ending another’s life."

"Planned Parenthood commands one-third of the nation’s abortion market, victimizing children while receiving approximately $528 million taxpayer dollars from federal, state, and local governments," continued Weininger. "We are glad this investigation by the House Judiciary Committee took a harder look at Planned Parenthood’s grisly business in the dismemberment of unborn children."
