Wisconsin Right to Life Celebrates the Lowest Drop in Abortions Since 1974

     Today, the Guttmacher Institute has released a report that shows abortion rates have hit a record low since 1974. Wisconsin was one of the states indicated as having a “larger-than-average” decline in our abortion rate. The Guttmacher Institute, which historically has had a relationship with Planned Parenthood Federation of America, claims this decline is largely due to increase contraceptive use. However, this claim doesn’t reconcile with evidence that in several countries, including the United States, abortion and contraceptive use have actually risen together.

     “It appears the Guttmacher Institute has some political motivations behind the reasons for their findings. However, we at Wisconsin Right to Life know the true source of the decline in abortion rates is due to a change in hearts and minds to favor life,” shared Heather Weininger, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life. “Take a look at what we have done in Wisconsin. We advocated for lifesaving laws such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act that educated the public about the pain the unborn experience during an abortion. Wisconsin Right to Life was also the lead supporter of Sonya’s Law, which allows a mother to see her unborn child on an ultrasound before making a decision favoring life. We have impactful Veritas Society educational campaigns that reach out to abortion-vulnerable women in need and empower them to make a life-affirming decision. We know that multi-faceted programs and education fuels the abortion decline, since women are given the opportunity to choose life.”
