Wisconsin Right to Life Responds to Supreme Court Election Results

Yesterday, it was announced Dane County Circuit Judge Jill Karofsky won the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court, defeating conservative Justice Daniel Kelly. Karofsky is the first challenger to beat a sitting justice since 2008. Her win over Justice Kelly will shift conservative control from 5-2 to 4-3.

In a statement, Kelly congratulated Karofsky and stated he plans to work hard for the remainder of his term.

“It has been the highest honor of my career to serve the people of Wisconsin on their Supreme Court these past four years,” he said in his statement. “Obviously I had hoped my service would continue for another decade, but tonight’s results make clear that God has a different plan for my future.”

Kristen Nupson, Wisconsin Right to Life’s PAC director, shares, “We are concerned that a woman who compared getting an abortion to getting wisdom teeth pulled will now be serving in our state’s highest court. Judge Karofsky has indicated she will be a “social justice warrior” from the bench, which undoubtedly means she will overstep her judicial role.

“While we are disappointed in the results of the election, we are grateful to Justice Kelly for his years serving the people of Wisconsin. He has faithfully upheld the rule of law and defended the Constitution while on the bench of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He will certainly be missed.”
