Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Chris Smith Reintroduce the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act

Today, Senator Lindsey Graham (R – SC) and Congressman Chris Smith (R – NJ) reintroduced the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act.  

This legislation would protect preborn children at 15 weeks, the point at which the child is capable of experiencing pain when killed by dismemberment or other late term abortion methods.  

The majority of Americans are in favor of banning abortion past 15 weeks, with exceptions for cases of medical emergencies. According to a recent poll conducted by the Harris Poll and Harvard University’s Center for American Political Studies, nearly three-fourths of registered voters would support a 15-week abortion ban, including 75% of women. 

Gracie Skogman, Wisconsin Right to Life’s legislative/PAC director responded, “This bill is based on national consensus, and would ensure preborn children are saved from cruel and painful abortions. It would establish a reasonable standard nationwide in states that do not already have protections for preborn children like Wisconsin does.” 

Skogman continued, “Earlier this summer, Congressional Democrats introduced legislation that would allow late-term abortion nationwide, a position supported by a mere 10% of Americans. In contrast, this proposal reflects the views of a majority of Americans and would protect innocent human life.”
