Right-to-Life Movement Not About to Roll Over

  • Blog

As the dust settles and we learn there is life beyond November 4, I am buoyed by the number of people who have taken the time to write to Wisconsin Right to Life with words of encouragement and strength. Rather than despair, they look forward to the future with renewed courage and determination.

Some are recounting how they felt when Clinton was elected President in 1992. It seemed like the end of the world, especially since the U.S. Supreme Court had reaffirmed Roe v. Wade earlier that year. We had so much hope that the court shaped by Reagan and George H.W. Bush would overturn Roe, and that Bush would be elected to a second term.

Our immediate first task as Clinton took office was to educate the public on the Freedom of Choice Act — the same FOCA that is at issue today. Wisconsin Right to Life organized a nationwide literature drop to explain the dangers of FOCA. Times have changed, but the issue hasn’t. And, we have enacted even more great laws that are saving human lives since 1992. FOCA would wipe all of them out. So, expect to hear more and more in this blog about FOCA, and roll up your sleeves to help us to spread the word. We need you now more than ever.

In so many ways, this is a fight to the death, because death is the ultimate objective of that culture. The culture of life must succeed, or we are all doomed.
