Battle to Shut Down Madison Second-Trimester Abortion Clinic Begins in Earnest

  • Blog

On every front and from various groups, the right-to-life community in Wisconsin and even across the nation is not going to stand by and let the “prestigious” medical community in Madison set up a full service second-trimester abortion facility within the Madison Surgery Center.

Imagine that you are a patient sent to the Surgery Center for your outpatient procedure. Whereas the medical professionals seeing you are working to enhance your health and physical condition, right down the hall, other “professionals” are dismembering fully-formed babies.

The Alliance Defense Fund has written to officials of the UW Hospitals and Clinics, Meriter Hospital and the UW Foundation, who jointly operate the Madison Surgery Center, threatening legal action if federal funding or conscience rights laws are broken. Wisconsin Congressmen Sensenbrenner and Ryan have written to the UW Hospitals and Clinics President and CEO outlining the conscience rights of employees.

The local Vigil for Life in Madison is carrying out a vigil this morning at the Madison Surgery Center. Wisconsin Right to Life is sending thousands of alerts to Wisconsin residents asking them to contact the Surgery Center and officials of the three sponsoring groups. This is only the beginning of what will be an intense battle for the heart and soul of our capital city.

Here’s how you can help by expressing your opposition:

Contact the Madison Surgery Center here.

Call Donna Katen-Bahensky, President and CEO, UW Hospitals and Clinics at 608-263-6400.

Call Dr. Jeffrey Grossman, President and CEO, UW Medical Foundation at 608-263-7013.

Call Jim Woodward, President and CEO, Meriter Hospital at 608-417-6000.

Please help — lives are at stake. If you get a response, please post it on this blog.
