The Knives Are Already Out for Palin

  • Blog

Talk show host Charlie Sykes said it best on Friday following the announcement of Sarah Palin as McCain’s veep choice — the knives will be out for Palin. There is nothing more heinous to the politically correct crowd than to have one of “their” chosen groupies think differently from them. They feel they own African-Americans, Latinos and — most importantly — women.

They are in red alarm alert with Palin. It doesn’t matter that she is making history as only the second woman on a national ticket. Never mind her list of impressive accomplishments. No, no, no. She doesn’t have the preferred credentials — the ones they and only they can bestow. She must be denounced because she is conservative and — horror of horrors — pro-life!

You can see their feverish minds at work. Over the weekend, the Daily Kos (I shudder to think I actually mentioned this vile group on this blog) started a rumor that Palin’s beautiful new baby boy is actually her daughter’s baby, not hers. Then Palin released the news that her daughter actually is pregnant with her own baby. This wonderful family that has experienced two incredibly sensitive situations and handled both admirably is now being treated as though their behavior is somehow scandalous.

Here’s a contrast for you:

Palin on her child with Down syndrome: “Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives.”

Palin on her daughter Bristol’s pregnancy: “Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents.”

Obama on his daughters becoming pregnant: “I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

The good part is that Americans are not fooled. Palin is sensible and down-to-earth, like most Americans. Americans know that families face tough situations every day. Palin has proven to them already that in the face of personal adversity, she has admirable character and a heart of gold. Americans are not about to trust Obama who thinks his own grandchild would be a punishment.
