McCain Fabulous on Abortion Issue in Debate; Obama Deceptive

  • Blog

Kudos to John McCain! He answered the abortion question in last night’s debate directly by stating his strong pro-life position Then, he socked it to Obama by raising two of the issues that are Obama’s Achilles heel — medical care for abortion survivors and partial-birth abortion.

Obama, in true form, gave very deceptive answers. Feigned indignance that anyone would claim he wouldn’t protect babies who are alive following an abortion attempt, even though he did it four times as an Illinois State Senator. Obama has now shifted tactics. For four years he claimed he voted against these bills because they were not like the federal law. When Illinois documents showing that the Illinois law he opposed was virtually identical to the federal law he says he would have supported given the chance, he was caught red-handed.

Obama’s new deception is that Illinois already had a state law protecting these babies. Apparently, Obama is way smarter than the Illinois Attorney General who said the existing state law did NOT protect these infants, and the entire U.S. Congress who passed a Born Alive bill without dissent upon learning the situation at an Illinois hospital in Obama’s backyard which is at the center of this whole issue.

On partial-birth abortion, Obama said he would support a law prohibiting late-term (and then he threw in for good measure partial-birth) abortions. But, here’s the caveat — they had to have a life and “health” of the mother exception. Partial-birth abortions are generally done around the 21st week of pregnancy and one has to question if Obama thinks these are “late-term” abortions.

McCain was quick to respond that the term “health” means virtually any abortion and is the standard pro-abortion line. Kudos again to McCain.

I was more than a little disturbed by the pundits who, following the debate, criticized McCain. Why didn’t he talk about taxpayer funding of abortion and the Freedom of Choice Act, they asked? Quite frankly, we are having the same problem as McCain. Obama’s abortion position is so extreme that it is hard to get everything in in the few precious seconds of sound bite accorded. McCain picked two critical issues and stuck to them.

Only a few weeks left until the big election. Wisconsin Right to Life will continue up to 8:00pm on election night to expose Obama’s callous and extreme pro-abortion positions, and McCain’s commitment to the protection of human life.
