Notre Dame Alumni Group Wants Jenkins Replaced

  • Blog

Far from dying down, the controversy over Notre Dame inviting President Obama to give the commencement address and receive an honorary degree continues to boil.

The latest is the formation of a new organization of alumni who are calling for Notre Dame President Fr. John Jenkins to be replaced. This follows on the heels of Jenkins refusing to meet with Notre Dame pro-life student groups who want to discuss their objections with him.

Some 300,000 pro-life advocates have signed a petition opposing the Obama appearance on campus.

The alumni group seeking to replace Jenkins issued the following statement: “Although we love Notre Dame, our conscience requires that we withhold all financial support from our University until such time as Father Jenkins is replaced as Notre Dame’s President with someone who will be more loyal to the teachings of the Catholic Church.” They have set a Replace Jenkins.com website.

Kudos to these principled alumni who refuse to allow their right-to-life values to be swept away.

You can find the Replace Jenkins website here.
