So Long Souter

I am one of the few people who never forgave President Ronald Reagan for appointing Sandra Day O’Connor to the U.S. Supreme Court. Following closely behind in deep disappointment is the disaster of David Souter. My heart aches to think of what could of been, how many unborn babies’ lives could have been saved, with someone other than these two justices sitting on the bench.

We know Obama will appoint a hard-core pro-abortionist to replace Souter and the balance on the court will be basically unaffected. So why be happy about Souter leaving? It is the injustice of it all.

Every presidential election year, we implore voters to think about the courts, especially the Supremes. It’s all about the judges, we say. When it works out well, it is incredibly gratifying. When we get a Souter disaster, those for whom we advocate face decades of continued violation of their human rights. And, trust in our judgment erodes.

You will hear commentary here on whomever Obama picks, and it won’t be positive. But, I am still personally happy to say: “So long Souter.”
