ObamaCare Hopes to Include Sweeping Abortion Mandates

Health care reform is on a fast track to be enacted this summer. Planned Parenthood, of course, is pushing for expanding abortion as “needed” to achieve full reproductive health care. Reproductive health has long been a code word for abortion on demand.

“The pro-abortion movement sees federal ‘health care reform’ legislation as a golden opportunity to force-feed abortion into every nook and cranny of the health-care delivery system,” according to National Right to Life Legislative Director Douglas Johnson. “Their goal, as they sometimes put it, is to ‘mainstream’ abortion. They hope to use the structure of a federal health-care law to make abortion on demand accessible in every region of every state, paid for by taxes and by government-mandated private insurance premiums.”

On July 17, 2007, candidate Obama said the following about about health care reform: “in my mind, reproductive care is essential care, basic care, so it is at the center, the heart of the plan that I propose.”

Knowing the public does not support subsidizing abortion, Johnson predicts that Congress will use stealth strategies to conceal how radical their ideas are. One plausible idea is for Congress to set up an authority board which will determine what health care will be mandated. The legislation setting up the board would appear innocuous. Once the legislation is approved, the authority board would complete the two-step strategy by mandating abortion coverage.

The result if this plan succeeds — more abortions paid for by you and me.
